A public intervention in Gwanghwamun, 2016
“K,” was a public intervention and a part of the “Black Market” art demonstrations in Gwanghwamun Square. In November 2016, opposing to the government’s “blacklist” of people working in the arts, artists occupied Gwanghwamun Square for several months. The Black Market was organized by artist, Jinhwon Hong, in a purpose of giving an opportunity to voices that were neglected under the corrupt leadership.
As one of the participants in this demonstration, CMYK wandered around the Gwanghwamun Square area making deals secretly with citizens. We sold nametags painted in black. Upon inscribing your name with a sharp object on the nametag, beautiful colors emerge. Each nametag is one of two hundred parts of a large-scale CMYK drawing, which represented all the scandals and incidents that took place during October-November 2016. Each nametag also has its own QR code on the back side, which allows the owner to view their part of the whole drawing. If you want to view the whole drawing, click the link below (or the photo of the name tag.)
CMYK is a mixed-sex duo formed to launch guerrilla operations of love and justice.
